St. Louis Litterbugs

It's not a good thing to be highlighted in this blog. People listed here have been spotted intentionally littering in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Thank you NAPA Auto Parts for being such a good citizen in our community.

My Optimism was Premature

Litter sightings have slowed down noticeably this year compared to last year. I began to wonder if St. Louis Litterbugs had done the job.

Could it be that word was out on the street that somebody was watching?
Could it be that people people didn't want to risk being publicly exposed?
Could it be that a new anti-littering revolution was taking hold in America?
Could it be that it was time to shut down St. Louis Litterbugs?

Well, it turns out that not everybody has gotten the word. The driver of champaign colored Jeep 4x4 with Missouri license plates 3AT-92K tossed a cigarette out the window yesterday June 25, 2007 at 5:20pm onto southbound River Des Peres Boulevard approaching Gravois. Look for the big spare tire on the back from DiSalvo's Jeep Chrysler.

Another Trail of Tears?

This morning at 8:04am on June 4, 2007, while driving northbound on Jefferson between I-44 and Park, I watched the driver of a blue Toyota Avalon with Missouri license plates 273-ZRL chuck his cigarette butt out the window. The amazing moment came about 30 seconds later at the next stop light, when he could already be seen smoking a NEW cigarette. Can you imagine the trail of litter he'll leave by the time he gets to his destination? Yikes!

Green Mustang's passenger litters

I had my eye so intently on the driver dangling a cigarette out the window that I almost missed the passenger fire his/her butt out the other side. The car was a green Mustang GT with Missouri license plates 545-WBB. This occurred at 6:15 pm on March 21, 2007 on eastbound Gravois while waiting for the light at River Des Peres Boulevard.

Bad Example

Documented by intrepid StLouisLitterbugs spotter Stacy:

On April 18, 2007 at 7:58am on Loughborough, just east of I-55 the driver of a Ford Escape Limited with Missouri license plates OAK-34J tossed a cigarette butt out the window. There appeared to be children in the front seat. Hopefully they were entranced by the fuzzy dice on the rear view mirror, and did not notice the bad example demonstrated by the adult. We need the next generation to be more responsible than the current generation. Sadly, without good role models, it seems a bit hopeless.

Patriotic Sports-Happy Litterbug

The driver of a white Chevy S10 pickup truck flicked a cigarette butt out the window onto southbound River Des Peres Boulevard approaching Morganford. The car was emblazoned with magnetic stickers including a soccer ball, a baseball, and the ubiquitous yellow-ribbon in support of somebody or something that had long since faded into invisibility. I'm guessing the driver is quite proud of his or her sporty little children, and, no doubt, "the troops." It's too bad he or she can't take a little more pride in his or her behavior, not to mention the environment.

The truck sported Missouri license plates 538-PF5. The cigarette butt was tossed at 5:25pm on March 27, 2007.

Monday, March 26, 2007

Honda Accord with Missouri license 936-SSR

The driver, in a tan baseball hat, flicked his cigarette onto eastbound Big Bend while passing Doc's Harley Davidson in Kirkwood. He was driving a red Honda Accord 2-door with Missouri license plates 936-SSR. The aforementioned cigarette flicking happened at 4:53pm on March 26, 2007.

Condoms in the Park

While picking up litter in the park, I've noticed whenever I find a used condom, it always seems to be one of the extra small ones. Coincidence, I wonder?

Handicapped? In what way?

The backseat passenger of a red 4-door Mercury with Missouri handicapped license plates C-538 tossed her (or his?) cigarette butt out the window onto eastbound Gravois while waiting for the light at River Des Peres Boulevard. This occurred at 5:34pm on March 14, 2007.

At Her Age Ought to Know Better

The litterbug in question was in her 50s, maybe knocking on 60. Whatever age she was she should know by now that it's not appropriate to throw your cigarette butt out the window of your white 4-door Ford Crown Victoria LX Special Edition with Missouri license plates 547-AWK. She should have it that at 5:24pm on March 14, 2007 when she was waiting to turn left onto Gravois at the light on east bound Eddie & Park.

Ford F-150 Litterbug

Documented by intrepid StLouisLitterbugs spotter Burak:

On February 26, 2007 at 7:15 AM, eastbound on Manchester Road at the stop light at Rock Hill Road, a cigarette butt was tossed out of a white Ford F-150 with Missouri license plates 004-CR5.

Not a Cigarette Butt for a Change

Maybe it was a wadded up tissue. Maybe it was a wadded up piece of paper. Whatever it was, it shouldn't have been thrown out the window of the white car with Missouri license plates 701-ZSH onto southbound Morganford, south of Chippewa. Today's offense against nature occurred at 12:20pm on February 18, 2007.

Ghosts of Christmas Past

Catching up on some old sightings that were never posted:

Documented by intrepid StLouisLitterbugs spotter Stacy:
Bearded guy wearing a red jacket in an older model blueish pickup with Missouri license plates 332-SZO on Christmas Eve 2006 on Morganford at Gravois.

Merry Christmas Everybody!

Love is Fleeting

The passenger of a green Trans Am with Missouri license plates 574-XPT tossed a cigarette out the window onto southbound Kirkwood Road shortly before I-44 at 11:30am on February 15, 2007. I guess the Valentine's love didn't last long.

Too Cool

At 4:56pm on February 4, 2007 the driver of a four-door black Toyota with Missouri license plates 3AL-14S flicked his cigarette out the window while waiting on the Murdoch exit of eastbound I-44. He looked like a teenage kid who thought he was too cool for the world.

White jeep-like vehicle - Missouri plates 5AB-73Z

A new litterbug has been identified. The driver of a white jeep-like vehicle with Missouri license plates 5AB-73Z tossed his cigarette onto eastbound Big Bend in Kirkwood, not long after exiting southbound 270. I say "jeep-like" because I could not verify the make of the vehicle from my vantage point.

This occurred at 10:50am on January 25, 2007. Unfortunately, my camera phone takes lousy pictures. If you look very closely at the picture, you can just barely see the offending arm holding the offending cigarette.

Blue Cavalier: MO 473-PXG

At 7:55am on November 27, 2006 the female driver of a blue Chevy Cavalier with Missouri license plates 473-PXG tossed her cigarette butt out the window on westbound Gravois while approaching Laclede Station Road.

Pickup Driver Needs to Pick It Up

The driver of a tan Dodge pickup with Missouri license plates 977-NG3 threw his cigarette butt out the window onto northbound Morganford Road at Beck Avenue on November 25, 2006 at noon.

Quitter Needs to Quit Littering

The driver of a gold-ish Honda Accord LX with Missouri license plates 575-WLM tossed a cigarette with a lot of life left in it onto southbound Morganford just before turning right onto River Des Peres Boulevard. I can only assume that somebody who would toss a barely smoked cigarette must be trying to quit. This occurred on the morning of November 21, 2006 shortly before 8am.

Highway 70 Litterbug

Spotted tossing a cigarette out the window this morning, November 13, 2006, at 10:10am was the driver of a blue Hyundai Sonata with Missouri license plates 146-MMA. The littering incident occurred on westbound I-70 west of downtown within the city limits.

Under the Cover of Darkness

Here's a suggestion to the driver of the Audi with Missouri license plates 3AT-90W. If you want to toss your cigarette butt into the street and not get caught doing it at night, try extinguishing the lit end on your tongue before you throw it out. As it was, the flare of sparks allowed me to see you littering while driving eastbound on Loughborough just before Hampton at 8:10pm on November 8, 2006.

Passenger Pollutes

I couldn't see what it was, but whatever was discarded out the passenger side window of the light blue Ford Explorer, was small and white. It was probably a cigarette butt, but maybe not. Regardless, it didn't look like something that was appropriate to toss out into nature.

The vehicle had Missouri license plates 573-NNC. The littering episode in question occurred on November 1, 2006 on southbound Kirkwood Road at I-44.

I Finally Spotted One of the "Other" Litterbugs

Up until this moment, every post in St. Louis Litterbugs has involved discarded cigarette butts. I've long observed disturbing amounts of other kinds of litter along the highways and byways of St. Louis, but have never caught any of the litterbugs in action, until now. I was beginning to think that people would go out during the wee hours of the night soley to dump fast food wrappers into the street.

On October 6, 2006 at 3:05pm, the driver of a convertible Camaro with Missouri license plates 929-WAK roller down her window and dumped some trash out while zooming eastbound through Webster Groves on Highway 44. I couldn't tell what it was, but it was white and in several pieces.

Usually They Wait Until Traffic Has Stopped

My observations have shown that usually drivers wait until coming to a stop at a traffic light or stop sign before tossing a butt out the window. More specifically, they usually wait until the light has just turned green, and then dump it immediately prior to starting to move again. But not this lady...

The driver of a Durango with Illinois license plates 735-5607 rolled down her window and flicked her cigarette butt into my lane of traffic as she was cruising southbound on Jamieson. I think it might have hit the front of my car before it even hit the ground. This attack on nature, and on me, took place at 5:23pm on September 29, 2006.

Caught!

I glanced over just in time to see the driver of Missouri license plates
245-RTT toss a cigarette butt out the window onto eastbound Big Bend at
Kirkwood Road. The littering event took place at 11:25 am on September
26, 2006.

El Burrito Loco customer tosses butt

After an undoubtedly delicious dinner at El Burrito Loco (3511 Bates, St. Louis, MO 63116) the pony-tailed female passenger of a van with Missouri license plates 959-SMA enjoyed an after dinner smoke, before tossing her (cigarette) butt into the street and hopping into the back of the van. This offense against civilization and nature occurred at 6:56 pm on September 25, 2006.

Thursday, September 14, 2006

Missouri license plates 228-SSM

The female driver of a white Honda Civic with Missouri license plates 228-SSM tossed her still lit cigarette out the window onto east bound Gravois at Mackenzie at 6pm on September 14, 2006.

Zebra Lady Strikes Near Ted Drewes

On September 13, 2006 at 5:07pm, a lady in a red Mercury tossed her cigarette onto southbound Jamieson, just before Chippewa. Her rear view mirror was done up right in a zebra stripe motif.

You can find the Zebra Lady driving around by looking for Missouri license plates 692-BMF, or just follow the trail of butts.

Webster Groves Dumping Ground

On September 7, while biking through the intersection of Big Bend and Murdoch in Webster Groves I observed an amazing collection of discarded cigarette butts in the street. Apparently people drive from miles around just to dump their butts in Webster Groves.

Wednesday, September 06, 2006

Flicked!

The driver of a sporty little car with Missouri license plates 867-WNA was spotted flicking his cigarette butt out the window on northbound River Des Peres Blvd. just prior to turning onto eastbound Gravois. The cigarette butt in question was flicked at 7:44am on September 6, 2006.

It's easier to litter when you're in a convertible

The driver of a convertible GEO with Missouri license plates 607-ZTG tossed his cigarette onto southbound Bowles Avenue while waiting for the light at 141. This occurred at 6:10pm on August 28, 2006.

Kirkwood is especially trashy today

The backseat passenger of a silver-ish Camry with Illinois license plates 523-7455 dropped his cigarette butt out the window as the car was eastbound on Big Bend, just east of Kirkwood Road at 5:52pm on August 25, 2006. Long-sideburned-passenger-dude was the second polluter caught in Kirkwood today by St. Louis Litterbugs.

"Imagine" a World Without Litterbugs

A fifty-something man with his wife (I assume it was his wife), took one last drag on his half-smoked cigarette before tossing it onto the sidewalk as they went into Grapevine Wines in Kirkwood. He had short hair with greying temples, and wore glasses. His wife had short brownish hair and wore glasses with reddish frames. The newest bit of pollution was introduced into the world at 12:05 pm on August 25, 2006.

The litterbug was wearing a black John Lennon t-shirt.

Butthead spotted on Loughborough

The driver of a blue vehicle with Missouri license plates 604-DRS was spotted throwing his cigarette butt out the window on east-bound Loughborough just west of Gravois on August 23, 2006 at 5:50pm.

At least he used his turn signal when he turned southbound into an alley.

Illinois Christian in green Honda litters

On Friday August 18, 2006 at 7:55am, the driver of a green Honda with Illinois license plates 754-7404 tossed a cigarette butt out the window onto westbound Gravois, just west of River Des Peres. The car had one of those Christian fish emblems on the back.

What would Jesus do with his cigarette butt? I wonder.

The World is Their Ashtray

What is it about smokers that so many of them feel justified heaving their cigarette butts out of the car window? Only rarely do I see someone chuck anything else out the car window. But hardly a day goes by when I don't see someone toss a butt into the street.

St. Louis Litter Bugs is my response to these inconsiderate slobs, beginning now!
